Catch up

Sorry for the silence around here.  I was in NOLA last week for work through to late Saturday night.  I came back with some sort of bug.

I have been doing nothing but work, sleep and a little DVR catch up since I got back. Nashville and Hart of Dixie are the only shows I try to catch every week, in addition to Grey's of course.  I do get roped into a good Bravo reality show but those rerun so much DVR is never necessary.

The song writing and performances in Nashville are A-maz-ing!  I don't know why I haven't purchased the {soundtrack} yet, maybe on my next trip to Target.

I often wonder what it would be like to live in a small town like Bluebell. But then I think - only one bar in town...hmm...  The small town aspect is very similar to Gilmore Girls.  It's just a feel good kind of show and it doesn't hurt that the guys are all easy on the eyes either!

What shows do you always DVR as a back up?

Weekend Fun

I started off my weekend with a trip to the salon.  I hadn't had my hair done in for-ev-er!  I took this picture with me for Now if I could just look like Julianne...

After the salon I drove up to the mountains for a weekend with my family.  My aunt and uncle have this fabulous log cabin.  If I didn't hate the cold so much, I might consider living there.

Saturday some of us went over to Elk Mountain to ski.  I hadn't been on skis in 2 years.  It's like riding a bike, comes right back to you.  If only it were that easy on my muscles.  My legs are still sore!

I love the view at the top!  It was 22 degrees out on Sat. and with the wind chill it felt like 13.  I can't believe I lasted all day, but it was great to be out there.  I downloaded an app called Ski Tracks, that tracks speed, distance, altitude and some other things.  I got up to 32 mph and I was fine with that as my top speed.

Sunday was a recoup day.  My uncle made a feast for breakfast for all 14 of us including 6 lbs of bacon...that's a lot of bacon.  After eating, we all watched Pitch Perfect.  It was good family movie.  The big trip of the day was to Tractor Supply.  I can now check that off the list.  We also stopped at a used furniture store on the way home and I picked up a lamp.  It is the mate to one that I got from my G-pop's house.  I couldn't believe I found a match for it, they are more then 40 years old.  No pic because it came home with my mom, no room in our car. Haha...

Off to NOLA for work this week...Happy Monday.

Weekend Fun

Last weekend's recap coming to you a bit late thanks to a 3:30 am wake up call on Monday and a 4 states in 4 days tour in New England.  It is day 3 in state 3 and I can't wait to go home tomorrow!  Yes, this means my Valentine's dinner will be in an airport but nothing beats your own bed after a long week!

I was away all last week as well, which meant I worked until 10pm on Friday :( sometimes it has to be done.

Saturday I had girl time with my mom.  We went shopping and my stand out purchase was the outfit above.  Pink pants (or flaming coral as the sales associate called them) are certainly out of the box for me!  I will be taking this to NOLA next week and most likely wearing on Easter. I know it's only Ash Wednesday and I already have an outfit picked out...I'm prepared.

I updated the my chalkboard on Sunday in preparation for my family dinner.  This is one of my favorite poems by e. e. cummings.  It's become more popular after being featured in the movie In Her Shoes.

My parents, sister, nephew and Grandmom came for dinner.  I haven't made an old people night in weeks and Gmom hadn't been to my house in a while and Mom loves a night off.  All good excuses to have everyone over for dinner.  A festive table set the scene for our pot roast and veggies dinner.  Both Mom and Dad went back for seconds so I guess it was good.

Weekend Fun

The first weekend in February was a busy one.  Friday night I met my cousin and aunt at the mall for dinner and a little shopping.  I didn't get much but did end up with this candle on super clearance.  There was no sticker with the scent but I really got it for the mercury glass jar it came it.  Once the candle is done, I want to use it on my dresser to collect small trinkets.  Bonus when I got home and lit it, smells great!

Saturday morning I went to a meeting with my cousin for Team in Training.  She is signed up to participate with the program in the Nike Woman's Marathon in Washington, DC this spring.  The race is sold out and this is the first year Nike will host a women's marathon on the east coast. I am still on the fence.  Need to decide soon if I am going to commit.

After the meeting we went to a local farmers market.  It is huge!  There were so many people, I only took a few pictures.  I need to go back and spend a day there to really see all that is there.

Lots of fresh veggies and meats, tons of dessert options and vendors with antiques and other home items fill the halls.

This is wine from a local winery.  How great is it that it is sold in a paint can with a spout?  I regretted not picking one up for my next party.  This will be great for summer parties.  I will def keep this in mind.  And I love that the wine is made locally.

After a visit with some family I hadn't seen in a while on Sunday afternoon.  I headed to another Aunt's house for s low key Super Bowl party.  She made a batch of her famous jambalaya, perfect for this NOLA game day.  I may have to attempt making this on my own.  So yummy!

After dinner we headed downstairs to watch the game on the big screen.  My aunt and I kept track of our favorite commercials.  I will try and post our winners tomorrow.

What were your favorite commercials?

Go Red!

Today is Go Red for Women Day!

Do you know what causes heart disease in women? What about the survival rate? Or whether women of all ethnicities share the same risk?
The fact is: Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year. That’s approximately one woman every minute!
But it doesn’t affect all women alike, and the warning signs for women aren’t the same in men. What’s more: These facts only begin to scratch the surface.
There are a several misconceptions about heart disease in women, and they could be putting you at risk. The American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement advocates for more research and swifter action for women’s heart health for this very reason. In this section, we’ll arm you with the facts and dispel some myths – because the truth can no longer be ignored.
Get more information from {Go Red for Women}'s official page.
Heart disease has affected many members of my family.  Spread the word!
